We at Douglas Fine Jewelry are strongly committed to supporting the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme for rough diamonds. We believe this is the most effective way of keeping conflict diamonds out of the legitimate channels of commerce.
Douglas Fine Jewelry subscribes to the voluntary system of warranties developed in conjunction with the Kimberley Process. Furthermore, we only conduct business with suppliers of polished diamonds and diamond jewelry who also subscribe to this program of self-regulation.
We require written assurances from our diamond and diamond jewelry suppliers that they too subscribe to the voluntary warranty system by requiring that our merchandise vendors print the following language on their invoices and/or by including this language in our annual contracts with them: “The diamonds herein invoices have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with the United Nations Resolutions. The seller hereby guarantees that these diamonds are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds.”
If a supplier refused to guarantee their diamonds and diamond jewelry were conflict-free, or if we had reason to believe their merchandise came from questionable sources, Douglas Fine Jewelry would not transact business with that supplier.
We take this issue very seriously and understand that the public does too. We have educated our company’s sales staff so that they can answer consumers’ questions regarding conflict diamonds and provide added confidence to our customers that we have instituted responsible measure to see to it that our merchandise is free of conflict diamonds.
As a member of the Jewelers of America, we annual renew our commitment to the Jewelers of America Code of Ethics, a set of social, ethical, and environmental principles. Among these principles is the responsibility to make every effort to ensure that we do not deal in the flow of conflict diamonds. We strive to maintain the highest possible standards in all aspects of our business.
We are proud to do our part in supporting the Kimberley Process. By working together, the jewelry industry is supporting a global system devised by governments, civil society and industry to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the supply chain. Douglas Fine Jewelry will continue to adhere to our policies in support of the Kimberley Process. |
